Additional Observations
When a holiday falls mid-week: Under the rules, if a public holiday falls mid-week and does not coincide with other holidays, it is generally observed with compensatory working days on adjacent weekends to create longer consecutive breaks.
Other Holidays and Commemorative Days: Certain groups (for example, women on International Women’s Day on March 8 or youth on Youth Day on May 4) have their own shorter half-day holidays. These do not usually require working day adjustments.
Planning beforehand is beneficial
If you live in or travel to China in 2026, it is good to mark these dates in your calendar and plan your activities in advance. Popular tourist destinations can be very crowded during these periods, and transport and accommodation bookings fill up quickly. For many locals, these longer breaks are an opportunity to visit family, travel domestically, or simply rest at home. For businesses, understanding holiday periods is important. Planning operations such as logistics, meetings, and production schedules should take the long breaks into account.
